In 1997, she had her acting debut in 1997 at thirteen. In 1997, Vandervoort had her debut on stage as an actor in the age group of 13. After completing several classes and performing background work for Canadian shows like Road to Avonlea or Harriet the Spy she got her voice in the Canadian Kids Horror anthology Goosebumps. There were commercials followed by guest starring roles in Mutant X, Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story, Goosebumps, Twice in a Lifetime, Doc, Sue Thomas: F.B.Eye, Troubled Waters, The Dresden Files, and several Disney Channel original movies (Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire and Alley Cats Strike), aged 19, at York University, which she studied Psychology and English. She landed a lead role as Sadie Harrison in the CTV teens' drama Instant Star The show ran for four seasons. Then, in 2006 Vandervoort played her debut feature film titled The Lookout alongside Jeff Daniels, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Matthew Goode along with Isla Fisher. Vandervoort was cast in Smallville, a serial drama which airs on The CW. The role she plays as Clark Kent's Kryptonian "Kara Kent" as the character who would later be Supergirl. The episodes she appeared in were the seasons 7 and 8 were in the form of a regular on the season, "Bloodline". She returned to Smallville for two more episodes in the finale season of the show, also her tenth. Vandervoort filmed the sequel film that aired in Into the Blue, titled Into the Blue 2 - The Reef. The Jazzman was her next independent film. The film also starred Canadian actors Michael Ironside and Corey Sevier.
